Dr. Joanne Foster
Dr. Joanne Foster holds a doctoral degree in Human Development and Applied Psychology, and a master’s degree in Special Education and Adaptive Instruction. She has worked in the field of gifted education for over 30 years, focusing on ways to encourage and support high-level development. She writes extensively about intelligence, creativity, productivity, and procrastination. She is co-author (with Dona Matthews) of the multi award-winning book Being Smart about Gifted Education, and Beyond Intelligence: Secrets for Raising Happily Productive Kids. Dr. Foster is also the sole author of Not Now, Maybe Later: Helping Children Overcome Procrastination and Bust Your BUTS: Tips for Teens who Procrastinate (winner of a 2018 Silver Benjamin Franklin Award).
Dr. Foster taught Educational Psychology at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto for many years, and she continues to provide leadership and facilitate community networking in gifted education across Canada and beyond. She conducts teacher-training workshops, serves on advisory committees, and gives presentations to educators and parent organizations in local, national, online, and international forums. She addresses the complexities of child development including high-ability learning, motivational concerns, gifted-related issues, and more. Dr. Foster also writes the column “Fostering Kids’ Success” at The Creativity Post.
Brandie Weikle is Editor & Publisher TheNewFamily.com and host of The New Family Podcast. She is a former editor-in-chief of Canadian Family magazine, parenting and relationships editor for the Toronto Star, founding editor of two Toronto Star websites, and an editor for Today’s Parent.
She writes a column called Modern Family for the Toronto Star, and is working on a book called The Ex Next Door: How a New Generation of Parents is Redefining Life After Divorce.
Brandie is a single mother of two in Toronto and a frequent television and radio guest on parenting topics. She also does speaking engagements on the topic of positive co-parenting. She provides one-on-one divorce coaching and is the leader of a lively international Facebook Community called Positive Co-Parenting After Divorce.
