There are a variety of resources and materials available to those seeking to support twice-exceptional students; however, much of these resources are overlooked and underutilized. To improve the educational experiences of this unique student population, this presentation presents options in programmatic structures and classroom supports proven to address the full scope of learning needs often presented by twice-exceptional learners. Using research from renowned scholars in the field, this presentation provides options that will reduce the likelihood of schools and districts from infringing upon the federal guidelines to provide an appropriate education for high achieving students identified with a disability.
Presenter Bio: Charissa Owens
Dr. Charissa M. Owens is the CEO and founder of Monarch Educational Enterprises, the only educational firm in Charleston, South Carolina that provides advocacy and advising supports for families of children with gifts and talents and children with disabilities. Dr. Owens completed her doctorate at the University of Central Florida. She is a published scholar and master teacher with over 15 years of experience in the field of education. With expertise in special education, gifted education, and behavior modification, Dr. Owens has dedicated her career to ensuring all students receive educational equity.
