Does Your Gifted Child Feel
"At Home" in School?
Cluster Grouping Can Help Gifted Students Thrive
This webinar resource is for the parent who might be asking, "Where can I find a place for my gifted child to learn and feel good about himself?" and "How can I convince my child's school to try something different for him or her?" It is also for the educator who seeks to meet the needs of all students - including gifted students - even when the school may have little or no funds for gifted education. This webinar will also benefit health professionals and counselors who work with gifted children and their parents.
Dr. Brulles will show how grouping practices can provide a dynamic setting where schools can effectively meet the social, emotional and academic needs of gifted students. Featuring real examples of gifted students with practical solutions from the Schoolwide Cluster Grouping Model, Dr. Brulles will discuss how schools can reach out to all their gifted students including:
- Underachieving students
- Culturally and linguistically diverse students
- Twice-exceptional students
Gifted children who are grouped in clusters at school will benefit from:
- Teachers who understand their unique social, emotional, and academic needs
- Opportunities to develop their interests
- Appropriate challenge in the academic areas
- Ample opportunity to learn new materials each day with other students of similar ability levels
- Feeling like they "fit in"
When gifted children feel accepted, they learn better, and are more likely to seek challenging learning opportunities.
Dr. Brulles is the Director of Gifted Education in the Paradise Valley Unified School District in Arizona. Dina teaches at Arizona State University and Maricopa Community Colleges.
