SENG Community Group: Gifted Adults

Wednesdays, April 3rd - May 8th

5:00 PM PST | 8:00 PM EST

Facilitated by  Sylvia Bagley and Jennifer Larrabee

This six-week session is dedicated exclusively to the experiences of gifted adults, led by SCG Facilitators Sylvia Bagley and Jennifer Larrabee. It is designed not for parenting gifted children—a topic we understand is part of the journey for some gifted adults—but to focus specifically on the nuances of being a gifted adult. If you identify as a gifted adult or are curious about the subject, we invite you to join us. Our discussions will delve into what it means to be gifted as an adult; our personal experiences growing up gifted, whether or not we were formally recognized; strategies to leverage our unique strengths; and ways to navigate the challenges we face. Our aim is to prioritize topics that are of most interest and need to participants, while actively encouraging ongoing suggestions!

Who Should Join? Any adults who identify as gifted or gifted-adjacent

About the Facilitators:

Sylvia S Bagley, Ph.D.: Sylvia is a gifted adult serving on SENG’s Board of Directors as Secretary of the Executive Committee and Chair of SENG Community Groups. She is co-parenting three twice-exceptional kids between the ages of 10 and 15, and is grateful for ongoing support from SENG, which started for her by attending one of SENG’s local support groups for parents. She is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles, where she earned her doctorate in the history and philosophy of education. She was formerly an elementary school teacher and instructional math coach, and is now a professor of equitable instructional leadership in the College of Education at the University of Washington, Seattle.

Jennifer Larrabee is a seasoned parent of three PG children (now young adults), two of whom are 2e. She attended several SENG conferences during her often-challenging parenting journey and became a certified SENG community group facilitator to support other gifted adults/parents. Jennifer received her BS and MS from Marquette University in Speech Pathology. Early in her career, she treated pediatric patients at a major medical center in Chicago while concurrently teaching graduate level courses at Northern Illinois University. For the last 25 years, Jennifer has served as a court appointed child advocate for children adjudicated as abused and/or neglected in the Illinois court system. She also leveraged her advocacy skills on behalf of her own children as they navigated the educational system. Additionally, Jennifer is a certified mediator in the Illinois court system and mediates cases relating to juvenile justice, guardianship, and post decree parenting agreements among other topics.
