December Topic:  Assessing Giftedness: Beyond Academic, Educational, Neuropsychological, and DSM-V Methods

About:  Cognitive and emotional concerns may occur at any age. Academic, educational, and neuropsychological assessments can identify and evaluate areas of cognitive strength and vulnerability. Recommendations for further assessment are often made when emotional concerns are highlighted.

Dr. Grobman will explain how adding a psychodynamic component to the assessment process allows him to determine the underlying causes of symptoms and dysfunctional behavior and formulate a successful treatment plan.

His years of clinical work have helped him to understand the special features of gifted personalities. While still using the DSM-V framework, he avoids the misdiagnosis of exaggerated gifted personality traits as psychiatric disorder/s.

A comprehensive case study will illustrate many facets of this enhanced assessment process.
