Wellbeing
Wellbeing At SENG
Wellbeing reflects the interconnected personal, relational, cultural, and environmental conditions that help people live meaningful and sustaining lives. These conditions may include belonging, purpose, affirming relationships, safety, rest, play, agency, and opportunities for growth.
For gifted and twice-exceptional people, wellbeing develops through the interaction of individual strengths and needs with relationships, communities, cultures, and environments. It may change across life stages, circumstances, identities, and experiences.
SENG supports gifted and twice-exceptional individuals, families, caregivers, educators, and professionals in cultivating conditions that support connection, resilience, self-understanding, agency, development, and flourishing across the lifespan.
Our Use of “Wellbeing”
SENG intentionally uses wellbeing as one word. This spelling reflects our understanding that wellness and being are integrated rather than separate. Wellbeing encompasses the whole person and emerges through the interaction of emotional, psychological, physical, social, relational, and environmental experiences.
Although both wellbeing and well-being are accepted spellings, our use of the unhyphenated form is a deliberate organizational choice. It communicates SENG’s whole-person, developmental, and systems-oriented approach to supporting gifted and twice-exceptional individuals across the lifespan.
Supporting Wellbeing Across the Lifespan
The conditions that support wellbeing may look different across life stages, relationships, communities, and environments. Connection, belonging, opportunities for reflection, meaningful relationships, and access to responsive communities can all contribute to how gifted and twice-exceptional people experience their lives.
For decades, SENG Community Groups (SCGs) have created opportunities for gifted individuals, parents, caregivers, educators, and others in the gifted community to connect through facilitated peer support. Participants can share experiences, learn from one another, reflect together, and build community with others who understand aspects of gifted and twice-exceptional life.
SCGs are nonclinical peer-support groups facilitated by SENG-trained facilitators. SCG facilitators are peer-support providers, not mental health practitioners, and SCGs are not a substitute for clinical mental health care.
